Facts about the Fire Opal


Fire Opal


Element: Fire

Colour: Yellow, Orange, Red

Appearance: Clear of milky, iridescent and fiery, or vitreous without fire, often small and polished

Source: Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Turkey, Australia and USA.

Fire Opal a hydrated silica material with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5, is named after its vivid orange color.  It does not usually opalesce, but it sometimes clear enough to make into faceted gems and these can be strikingly beautiful.
