Facts about feldspar


Feldspar

2 main groups of feldspar

- Potassium feldspar (orthoclase - moonstones,sanidine & microcline - amazonite)

- Calsium sodium feldspar (plagioclase –perisrite; oligoclase (aventurine feldspar; andesine, labradorite)

Orthoclase

Hardness : 6

Colour : Colorless, yellow

Although the mineral can be foundacross the earth, crystals that are suitable for gems are scarce. They are acommon component of granite rocks

Source: Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Burma

These stones are usually faceted forcollectors.
